Still Here – Some News and Updates

Return to More Regular Postings

Sorry for the long absence, I have been involved in a business startup that has taken up much of the time I would have been devoting to creating blog content. With the time available I have been focusing on editing Book 2, and I have completed the first editing pass. A number of cuts, additions, and rewrites have already been made, but several more passes are still necessary. Book 2 is taking a longer time to edit than Book 1. This is because of the number of converging plot lines and the need to maintain continuity.

Expect the first teasers for Book 2 within 4-8 weeks, depending on developments in the editing process. Also expect a number of other new posts, including artwork, over the next two months.

Note on New Content and Potential Spoilers

Some upcoming content may have spoilers for Book 2 content. Most of these will be minor, but there may be a few that are more significant. Most notable is an updated character listing that is currently in development and will contain Book 2 characters. For the time being, I intend to keep this listing separate from the Book 1 listing. In any case, all content with potential spoilers will be marked as such, and I will try to ensure that such content is only shown on the respective content pages and not on this sites main page.

New Art and Book 2 Update

New Art

Once again I realize it has been some time since I posted, I intend to be more regular in the future. My workflow was temporarily disrupted by a faulty mouse which delayed the completion of some artwork. However, I now have the my first completed rendering.

This rendering is of the colony ship from my last short story. More 3D rendered art will follow in the future. The first promotional material for my second book will likely be in this format. (Please note that this image uses 24-bit color depth and may look odd on displays that only support 16-bit.)

Book 2 Status Update

While I was unable to finish my artwork for a time, I have been heavily focused on the completion of Book 2. At this time I am currently writing the final chapter. Once I finish this chapter, the first draft of Book 2 can be considered completed and I will begin the process of editing. I will post updates on this process in coming weeks. As editing progresses I intend to release some teasers for Book 2, but it is still too early to provide an estimate of when these will be available.

I had planned to release this last week but because of the length of the story I had to delay it for editing. The overall length of this story means it could technically be considered a novella. Because of this I have decided to split it into two parts, expect Part 2 to be released soon. As usual I will release a PDF version of the full story when I release Part 2.

New Content Format

This is something I am particularly excited about. I have some experience in 3D modelling and design, so for a while I have been considering creating some 3D concept art of ships or locations in my stories, and I finally have something to show in that regard. Below I have included a quick conceptual rendering of the colony ship that appears in my latest short story. This is very much a work in progress, the model, textures, and lighting are incomplete. However, I wanted to release it as a sample of things to come.

Book 2 News and Upcoming Blog Content

I realize it has been some time since I posted, I have recently completed some real life projects that have been occupying much of my time. I intend to return to more frequent posts, and you can expect some major content updates (including a possible short story) in the coming weeks.

As far as my second book is concerned, the first draft is nearly complete. When it is I will move on to editing, during which time previews may become available. It is still too early to estimate when Book 2 will be released, but I will provide periodic progress updates.

I also wanted to post two pieces of concept art that I have for Book 2 and an upcoming short story. These piece along with some others will be part of future posts (Click on the thumbnails at the top of this post or the larger images below to see the full sized versions). Check back for more soon.

Major News, Something New, and Updates

News on Book 2

I realize it has once again been a while since I have posted, but this time I at least have a good reason. Massive progress has been made on the first draft of my second book, which is nearing completion. Over 70,000 words have been written in the last month (Yes, you read that right, 70,000). At this point I am quite certain that Book 2 will be at least a little longer than Book 1, even after editing.

Reiterating what I have mentioned before, once the draft is completed it will enter a significant editing process. This will include cuts, additions, rewrites, and correcting the inevitable minor mistakes. I do not have an editing timetable yet, but I will post updates as progress is made. During this process is also when previews may become available.

New Content

I am debuting something new this week. Inspired by something a friend inquired about, a location briefing. This content is intended to be some more in depth information on a specific location that appears in my stories. This might include details that were cut from my books because it was not immediately relevant to the story, expanded details to provide a better idea of what a location is like, and historical information (from the viewpoint of my stories) about a given location. In the future, I may provide some sort of concept art to augment these as well.

This week, I am beginning with a location that appears fairly early in Book 1, Lambda Station. There should not be any plot spoilers in this briefing since it primarily focuses on the history of the station from some time before my stories take place.

After some suggestion, I have also considered using content like this as some of the first teasers for Book 2. This would involve outlining a few of the locations that appear in Book 2 without spoiling anything from a plot standpoint. This is only an idea at the moment, and nothing would appear until the first draft of Book 2 is complete. I will have more on this in the future.

Updates

I have been somewhat distracted by my writing and other real life activities, so I have neglected making some necessary updates to the site. I intend to correct that over the next week. Expect some content updates and some updates to functionality. While I expect these to be seamless, if there is any disruption to the site, it will be due to these updates and should be temporary.

A New Short Story Coming Next Week!

I realize it has been a while since I’ve posted, but I hope to remedy that over the next few weeks. Set for some time next week is the release of a new short story which will accompany another character profile. My upcoming short story is shorter than my first, but I may still split it into two parts for ease of online reading. A PDF version of the complete story will also be available, as usual.

In addition to my short story I have been working on finishing a draft of my second novel. My focus on these projects has been taking up time I would otherwise be using to create blog content. Once my short story is published I intend to shift back to a more regular posting schedule.

Third Character Profile

This character profile became a bit more complicated than initially planned, largely due to the need to maintain continuity with some character backstory that will be established in my second novel. As such, there may be some very minor spoilers related to character development, but no Book 2 plot details are revealed. Character directory and other internal site links will be updated soon to reflect this new content.

News and Updates on my Second Novel

Site News

I realize I have not posted for some time. This is in part due to a serious problem with a Windows 10 update being forced onto one of my systems and turning it into a large paperweight. This issue took an absurd amount of time to resolve because of difficulty getting the necessary files to repair it from Microsoft. (The download repeatedly failed.) Fortunately I did not lose any of my writing and the issue appears to be resolved. Ideally I will now be able to get back to posting more regularly and I hope to have another character profile in the near future.

My Second Novel

I am also pleased to announce that I have completed the outline for the final chapters of my second novel which is a direct sequel to my first. Once these chapters are written a significant editing process will begin. Many people have been asking when my second novel will be available or when I might post previews. While I do not want to estimate a date of publication, I can say that previews will become available during the editing process. Any significant progress updates will be posted here.

The character directory is intended to be a simple listing of characters from my novel with some very basic biographical information. Links to more in depth character profiles will be added as they are published. Please consider purchasing my novel if you have not already, and remember to spread the word. Your support allows me to spend more time writing and thus publish more material more frequently. Once again I would like to thank everyone who has purchased my novel already.

You may also notice that there is a new references tab in the top menu, this contains links to the character directory and a page listing all published character profiles, both of which will grow as new material is published. In addition to these changes, there is new header art for character profile pages. I had hoped to release the character directory and these updates last week but I had to prioritize fixes to some behind the scenes scripting issues.
